Character Analysis
Devin Gutierrez
P. 4 (B)
Romeo's character so far is a love struck, emotional and pacifist older teen. “It was. What sadness lengthens Romeo’s hours? Not having which, having, makes them short. In love? Out. Of love? Out of her favor where I am in love.” (Pg 34, Shakespeare) Romeo falls in and out of love very easily, he was in love with Rosaline, then saw Juliet and now loves her. “O she doth teach the torches to burn bright.” (Pg 68 Shakespeare) He doesn’t like fighting so he likes peace a lot. He is a pacifist, “Peace, peace, Mercutio, peace. Thou talk’st of nothing.” (Pg 62 Shakespeare) My personal reaction to Romeo is that he comes off annoying to me. This is so because he is always falling in love and won’t leave anything alone until it is his, or if he wants it. “How cam’st thou hither, tell me, and wherefore? The orchard walls are high and hard to climb, And the place death, considering who thou art, If any of my kinsmen find thee here.  With love’s light wings did I o’erperch these walls, For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do, the dares love attempt: therefore thy kinsmen are no stop to me.” (Pg 86 Shakespeare) This is annoying to me because he just won’t give up until Juliet is his. I dislike Romeo so far because he can’t or refuses to give up on his love fantasies.
